Hi everyone! So I wanted to make a short post to fill you all in about a small change that is going to be made to my blog going forward. Since I started this blog, my goal have always been to make the topics I write about accessible and easy to understand by everyone. Sometimes these topics require a great amount of research and validation on my part to avoid misleading people.
Over the past week I've been trying to resolve what changes that need to be made to the Xcode project configurations to support building the app I work on in Xcode 8. This has involved a radar, and reaching out to some of the developers behind the new automatic signing feature in Xcode 8. This has been non-trivial work, which I am now attempting to document in its entirity so that other people can benefit from what I have learned. My goal was to have this done for Monday morning, but it doesn't look like that will be happening (not sure if it will happen this week or early next week).
While working on that blog post yesterday, I began to stew on something I've been thinking about for a while: a donation button. I've had people tell me that my blog posts have saved them a lot of time in understanding or debugging. I appreciate hearing that a lot, but it doesn't do anything to compensate me for the time and effort I am pouring into writing these posts. Some of you may have heard me say that I write more documentation than code. Writing good documentation is very time consuming and a lot of work. Writing this blog a huge use of my free-time. That is time I could be spending with friends, writing the OS X Internals book, playing with my dog, etc. This is a job I don't get paid for.
So, starting today, all of my blog posts will have a footer that looks like this:
In addition to this, there will be a donation link on the blog index page.
If anything I have written here or created through my open source projects has benefitted you, I would greatly appreciate a donation. Donations will go to help offset the server costs of maintaining this website. Thank you!
